On Sunday March 8th, in recognition of International Women’s Day, the Wolfville and District Lions Club hosted a luncheon in support of our project to fund fistula repair surgery in Ghana. Our founder, Habiba was the guest speaker and addressed an audience of Lions Club members and Wolfville residents about her work as an end fistula advocate in addition to the current initiative being led by WHOI. Opening remarks were delivered by politicians Kody Blois, Member of Parliament (King-Hants) and Keith Irving, Member of the Legislative Assembly (Kings South), as well as by District N 2 Lions Governor, Debbie McGinley.
Audience members were intrigued by Habiba’s presentation. They learned about WHOI’s work in the community, the scale of obstetric fistula globally, and efforts being taken to combat the condition in Ghana specifically. We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Kim Stewart, leader of the Lions New Voices Initiative, for taking interest in our work. We appreciate the time and effort she put into organizing the luncheon and making us feel at home. We are honoured to have shared our work with the Wolfville and District Lions Club and are grateful for their contribution to our fundraiser.
